Just in Case You Wondered Too.

A year ago today I decided to try a DIY Laundry Detergent I read about and pinned on Pinterest. If you’re like me, you pin ideas to try at a later date. I read about many things on Pinterest and always wonder if they really are as great as other pinners say they are. Well, this DIY Laundry Detergent is!! here It lasted me from last December to October and I do alot of laundry. If you’re someone who likes lots of fragrance, this may not be for you. I don’t like my clothes to smell to perfumy, just smell fresh and look very clean.

Tip:  I used a food processor to grind up the bars of soap more finely.  I didn’t want to use a cheese grater because I thought the pieces of soap would be to large to dissolve in water. Using this method, I’ve never had any problems with the soap not dissolving in water and being left of my clothes.

Since I had such great luck with the DIY Detergent, I decided to try a DIY Fabric Softener.  So a couple of days ago I followed this recipe and tried it. The only thing I changed was the scent because they didn’t have the Lavender.  I used RefreshingWaterfall Mist from Suave and it’s a clean, soft scent.  I’ve tried it on my sheets and although it didn’t leave much fragrance, it did make them softer.  I like my sheets dried in the sun and by drying them this way makes them a little stiffer.  I can’t wait to try this on my towels.

Tip:  I used a handheld blender to mix up this recipe.

Needless to say, over the last year I’m saved countless $$ on not having to purchase expensive brand name detergents.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!!

I have used the fabric softner recipe now for several months. I love it. I like trying different scents of the conditioner! I so want to do the soap but so far I have either not had time or when I have I have been on the lazy side!!!! Susie McCleskey

  6. Susie: Which scents have you tried? I wanted Lavender, but they didn't have it. I will try it on the next batch.

Does the soap fade your clothes?

  8. I haven't noticed this detergent fading our clothes. I don't think this concoction is very harsh. HTH
