More than six months ago I purchased the Brother 1034D serger to do a comparison series with my current serger, the Singer Pro Finish.  If you missed my announcement post and video, you can view it HERE.  These models are pretty evenly matched on the entry level scale. After months of use and testing, I’ve finally completed my comparison and I’m going to share my findings over a 3-part blog series starting next week.  This was a tough challenge for me, because I know there are so many fans of each model and owners seem to have their preferences.  I went into this with total impartiality even though I own 2 higher end other Singer serger models as well.  There are things I like and love about both these machines and will be candidly sharing my thoughts on each machine.

There was so much content I wanted to include in this comparison that it just kept growing and growing. One blog post would have been long and less appealing, so I decided to break it down into the following sections which seemed to make the most sense.

Starting on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, the first in the series of three posts will begin.  They will be broken down into the following parts.

1.  Technical Specifications Comparison

2.  Stitch Quality & Threading Comparison

3.  Mechanical Details Comparison

I received quite a few questions in emails since I announced my comparison and I’ve included those answers as well.  Keep in mind this comparison was in no way meant to disparage either brand.  It was written to give an honest assessment of each of these machine’s features, specifications and it’s operation.  Each reader can come to their own conclusions as too which machine fits their needs more closely.  Sections 2 & 3 will include my personal preferences for each feature I compare.

If you’re wondering why it’s taken me so long to begin to share my findings, there are 2 reasons for that.  Firstly, I like to really get to know a machine before doing any kind of review.  Historically, I have only done written reviews of machines I have owned for years. Literally for years.  First impressions are not always accurate since I’ve had a few machines over the years that it’s taken time for us to become friends.  That’s why this really isn’t a review as much as a comparison.  It took me a while to do an accurate testing and to write and produce what I consider a fair comparison.  The second reason is that this also coincided with the fact that my blog was corrupted and down for quite a while thanks to a change is service policy with a 3rd party hosting company.  It took me weeks and weeks to get it all sorted with having to upload more than 1000 pictures back into my blog. So glad that’s done!!

I hope if you were one of the people looking forward to this and interested in what I have found in my comparison, that you will follow along over the next few blog posts. Even though I’ve tried to be a thorough as possible, I’m sure there’s something I’ve missed.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to email me!!

I’ve created a Facebook Event too for those that follow my FB page, Roxanne Stitches.  If you’d like to follow along with this comparison, please like my FB page HERE, so you won’t miss out on any of this 3 part series.
