Hi Everyone! Â I’d like to introduce Meredyth! Â She’s a member of the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 Fans FB Group. Â This is the group I started about one year ago for those that Own, Use and Love the Singer 9960.
This group is full of talented people and Meredyth is no exception.  She has a Unique Artistic Gift that we’ve all been mesmerized by in the group and I’d like to share her work with you.
Â
drum roll please….
Meredyth creates animal portraiture with free motion embroidery! Â Each one of these wonderful pieces of Art are created by hand with free motion stitches.
I find the expressiveness in the eyes that she’s able to convey just fascinating.  The shading and textures really bring these animals to life!!

More recently she’s taken her Artwork to a new level with a more free style approach to portraits. Â Notice how the eyes and shape are still very realistic, but she’s used shapes and pattern stitching to create the texture of the animals. Â Just Amazing!!
I asked Meredyth a few questions and she was kind enough to graciously answer and bring us into her world.
How did you get started exploring this kind of thread painting?
“Until I got my 9960, I just did standard quilting and other sewing (mostly refashioning or clothing) on a very basic machine. Â I always admired thread painting from afar. Â When I got my 9960, which came with all the feet, including the darning/free motion quilting foot, that’s when I started experimenting with different quilting patterns and techniques. Â I started doing the pet artwork when my mother’s dog passed away and I wanted to make her something really unique and special. Â I never thought it would become my “niche”, but it turned out so well that when I shared it in some of the quilting groups I belong too, the orders started rolling in.”
Â
How long does it take for you to complete a portrait of someone’s pet?
“Generally speaking, my pet products take about 20 to 30 hours from start to finish.”
Â
What do you call this kind of Artwork? Â It’s very unique.
“It falls into the thread painting category, although I also use raw edge applique and quilting techniques to get the texture and color right.”
Â
Â
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing these wonderful creations by Meredyth! Â She truly uses her Singer 9960 to it’s potential. Â I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of something very new she’s working on:
Â
I’m looking forward to seeing how this evolves into something Incredible!
