Where the blog began….
In late 2012 I started my creative blog to share my sewing experience and to help inspire other sewists to try new sewing techniques. It wasn’t really a serious “thing” for me until I was encouraged by a Facebook Group leader to give video production a try. So by the summer of 2013, I finally created my channel and posted my first video on YouTube. Shortly after, I started a video series featuring my favorite sewing machine, the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. This machine was a Christmas gift from my husband in 2011. I found that the public really connected to my teaching style and I just kept on posting videos. I also started a Facebook group for other owners of this fabulous machine to share their makes. My channel, Roxanne Stitches really grew whether I nurtured it or not, so last November 2019, I realized ‘The Universe” was trying to tell me something and I started working harder and harder to grow my channel into a full time job. By April, Covid-19 was in full sewing and the Singer 9960 was in hot demand and so were my videos. I even purchased a newer 9960 to create a video on how to repair the auto cutter since I was getting requests for help. Most recently I’ve added pattern reviews of my makes as well as product reviews of sewing tools I use to my list of video production.
My Background….
I have a degree in Fashion Design and Production Pattern Making. I specialize in Bridal and Eveningwear and was assistant designer to Eva Forsyth at the height of her career in Charlottesville, Virginia. I was lucky to have learned from her and continued on in my career as a Designer at Couture Fashions in Miami, Florida.
Fast forward through an engagement, marriage and job transition to a new career as a Textile Designer/Drafter at Metritek in Boca Raton, Florida. Metritek was one of the largest family owned knitting mills in North America that specialized in the production of lingerie and bridal laces. Over a 15-year period I learned how to design and draft patterns for Jacquardtronic, Binary, Fascination and Jacquard machines.
Currently, I enjoy sharing and teaching sewing techniques through my videos. Writing evergreen creative content is a passion of mine. I’m learning new computer programs now, to expand my offerings to the public. I also would like to become a professional sewing educator at some point in the future.
