I thought Lavender would be a pretty color for Spring and this jacket would look great over white. I’ll probably wear it with a white tank and white jeans for a crisp, fresh look.
This pattern has very simple construction with only 4 pattern pieces. The lace has a large scalloped, fringed edge within the pattern so I decided to take advantage of that by cutting the sleeve edges and lower jacket center front on the scallop. Bonus: No hemming the sleeves or the center front of this jacket!! All of the other seams were sewn as french seams for a clean finish on both the inside and outside of the garment except the waistline seam.
I sewed the wrong side of the ribbon to the wrong side of the neckline at 3/8″(at the stay stitching line), trimmed the seam to 1/8″, then turned the ribbon to the outside and pressed. Next I machine top stitched the ribbon down at the neckline for a clean finish.
The waistline seam was also covered with the same iridescent ribbon for a clean finish at the waist. I sewed a large hook and eye at the waistline seam as a secure closure. The hemline was narrowly rolled and hand finished.
I love the way this jacket turned out and think it’s versatile enough to wear over a pair of jeans for a casual look or over a dress for a more dressy look. I’m very happy with selecting this pattern for the OPML’s contest. Now on to the next “look”……stay tuned!
You did an excellent job with the fussy-cut. The jacket is so pretty.
Gorgeous!
