Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! Oh…..can I still say that now that we’re into February? I guess I can since this is my first post of the new year, right? Although this isn’t my first “make” this year, it’s the first one I’ve wanted to post about. This is Peyton Top from Sonia Estep Designs. When this top first came out last year, I loved it right away, but wasn’t sure I could pull it off. I thought there would be too much fullness around the waistline for me and that it wouldn’t be flattering. I was pleasantly surprised with the way it turned out! It’s super comfortable and easy to wear. AND if I do say so myself, it’s pretty darn flattering. Shame on me for avoiding this relaxed style for so long. Proves that sometimes we need to try it to see if it works. Well, this works!
I made my usual size in this brand, which is a size 12. This is the short sleeve version, but there’s also an option for a long sleeve as well. This was my first time making a faux front placket and thought I’d add some buttons for interest, but it really didn’t need it. There are only a few pattern pieces to this design. Bodice front & back, front placket and 2 lower front sections that are cut from the same pattern piece. This pattern is sized for stretch knit’s was a super quick and easy make. This is a double brush poly and is an exclusive print from Joann Fabrics. I couldn’t resist the gorgeous shade of blue on a crisp white background. It’s very soft and has a wonderful drape which was perfect for this design. I chose to pair this top with a simple pencil skirt for a more office appropriate look, but this length would be perfect to wear with a pair of white skinny jeans for a casual style.
I hope if you’re ready to start some Spring sewing that you’ll check out this pattern and consider giving it a try. You might be as surprised as I was and really fall in love with this style. The Peyton Top from Sonia Estep Designs is a quick make and definitely a Victory Sew for 2022!!
